Coming home from a dinner night out with my g/f I turned on my head lights but only the passenger side was going up and the driver side wouldn't rise at all. So I pulled in to the nearest parking lot and pop my hood open so I get a closer look at whats happening. I turned the headlights on/off and the first thing I noticed was that the (motor worm?) was not spinning on the driver side but the headlight would still come on while it stayed seated down. The passenger side was clearly fine rising up and down while I turned it on/off. I also tried listening for any broken gears( I have been reading about this lately) but did not hear anything particular coming from the headlight motor. Should I just take it apart and replace it anyway?
Oh and btw this is on a 98 Corvette C5 with 8k HID
(After some 50x tries it finally manage to raise up so I could make it home w/o getting pulled over for having a headlight out) but when I got home I turned it off waited 30 sec and turn on again. Driver side stayed down again...
Mine does the same thing. I still haven't been able to figure out what's causing the problem. There's nothing wrong with the motor or gear, it just won't come up sometimes. Post if you figure anything out.
I manually turned the headlight **** under the hood to get it to come up (Counter clockwise) then turned it back down(Clockwise) and some how it started working again. But I accidently turned it to much(clockwise) and broke the gear. So now I hear that machine gun noise that everyone is referring too. Weird thing that happened was when I turn the headlight switch one click to get just the fog lights to come on both headlights would pop up...what could I have done or went wrong?

I seriously doubt you turning by hand is what broke that gear. You must have REALLY been crankin on that thing if that's the case. I'd say it was broke before you got to it, you just didn't realize it yet. Jump on Ebay and grab the bronze gear kit. $55/fs.

I was under the impression that is normal. My car does the same thing. One click on the light switch and the headlights pop up, just don't turn on.
