My 97 MN6 with 40k miles has always started milliseconds after the key is turned. I use it for track days 5ish times per year. It has mild modifications (CAI, catback, lots of suspension and brakes, no internal engine mods). About a month ago I got in and cranked her up. The engine turned over 3-4 times before catching. This seems to be a pretty common thing on cold starts now. It doesnt seem to happen when the car is warm. The battery voltage appears normal. any ideas as to why it would take so long to fire up?
Turn the ignition to ON and then OFF three times before you start the engine. If you have a problem thats letting the fuel pressure leak off back to the tank That will help prove it.
Sounds as though the fuel in the fuel lines is draining back to the tank. Lets see if that makes a difference..
I tied your recomendation and the car started on the first revolution as per the old usual. I am going to try this a few more times to make sure that solves the startup issue before going further with it. Do you know of a certain regular issue that causes a pressure release in the fuel lines?
WELL,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, If it wer me,,, and I had this issue, I would first try to chemically resolve it.
Run a couple treatments of Chevron Techron Fuel system cleaner over several fill ups.. Dump it in the tank when its close to empty and then fill it up. If that doesnt fix it, the fuel line assy back near the tank has a small check valve in it that needs to be changed.
