Default LS7 clutch install

I just finished installing the LS7 clutch in my car. (clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, pilot bearing, throw out bearing....)

It sticks. for sure. The clutch seems to engage right off the bottom of the floor. like about 1-2" off the floor.

Is this normal? Does it lift up as the disc wears in a little?

It's heavy too. No clutch assist spring on my pedal. Would hate to get stuck in traffic with this.

Assuming you changed out the slave too, when you replaced the throw out.
Stock LS7 flywheel?

Which clutch master cylinder are you using?

I just swapped in the whole LS7 clutch set-up in my '98 convertible (flywheel, clutch disk, pressure plate, master cylinder, and slave cylinder) a few weeks ago.

The friction point does feel somewhat "low" - but not almost to the floor. I'll bleed it again in a couple of weeks and see if it improves. Pedal effort isn't bad, though.

Did you torque the pressure plate in 3 stages and in the prescribed pattern? You can get some weird binding (I've heard) if this isn't done right...

A result of not doing the pre-adjustment....and yes, it will improve over time.

Changed the slave with LS6 parts. Master is original LS1. Stock LS7 flywheel.

"Pre-adjustment"

That's a new one to me. I'll bite - please tell me more.

Common issue with the LS7 clutch. Most just live with it, knowing it will improve within a few hundred miles.

Thanks. Knowing it will go away is going to be good enough for me.

You might want to replace the "assist spring" too. You can read why on this LINK.

There is some very good information in this thread and since we have C5's most would likely not know since you probably wouldn't buy the later service manual. Wondering if this information should become a sticky or be put into a location easily found.

Yup, that's on the list this morning, with luck the dealer may have one in stock...doubt it though.

Teddy came over last night - since he's had this same clutch. he essentialy told me that the weight is normal and not to be such a puss

The pedal engagement height adjustment happens within ~500 miles, all on its own. Just drive it somewhat easy during this time, let the new flywheel get heat-cycled, and it'll work out fine.

Replaced the pedal assist spring tonight. That did make a noticable difference in pedal effort. Still waiting for it to self adjust. It's either REALLY slow or I'm the one doing the adjusting... My freeway miles commute probably doesn't help.

I suppose I can take off the inspection cover and do this as someone presses down the clutch pedal - but I'll wait a month before I get back under this car again.

what did the gap measurement come in at?

........and you had no problem installing the PP and disc without removing the BHousing?(you shouldn't)

same setup on the LS1/LS6 clutch, completely different FW/PP/disc vs. the C6 setup, but the 3 springs are present and covered in the GM S.I.

The A vs. B measurement(t/o bearing face vs. PP fingers) is for some reason rarely discussed here on the forum; that's the 'basics' when it comes to setup and is often the root cause of clutch release/shifting problems
