Hey there guys, a little question for you all....I am just completing an upgrade to my C5's braking system with new C6 Z51 calipers and Baer Eradispeed rotors. I took her out today to season the rotors and bed in the pads and am very happy with the result. When I first pulled out of the garage I had a few squeekes and a little rubbing sound, thought it was probably just one of the pads dragging a little, figured it would go away after a few applications of the brakes at speed, and it did, however when I got back into my neighborhood I still have a squeek/rubbing sound only at low speed andmostly when I turn. When I speed up or apply the brakes, it goes away. It seems to be coming from the right rear. During this project I did replace the right rear axle half shaft with a new on from Gene and I wouldn't think it was the axle if it goes away when I apply the brakes. I do not see anything from the outside but tomorrow after everything is cooled down good I plan to take off the right rear wheel and give it a good inspection.
Does anybody out there have a similar experience or any advice as to what to check? Thanks in advance, any help will be greatly appreciated!

Jim:
The thing about new pads, and rotors is that they will take some time to bed in. The rotors have a "zinc" coating on them, and maybe that is getting on the pads ? It may take some time for the pads to wear off the zinc coating on the rotors and full bed in. You will notice a lot of brake dust for the first while while the zinc coating wears off. I did for sure.
Could it be your parking brake making contact inside your new rear rotor ? You may want to lift your car (entire rear end)(both back tires off the ground)... release the parking brake, put in neutral. Make sure to put wheel chokes under the front tires. Try to turn the rear wheel with your hands. You should be able to rather easy. You will hear a little bit of disc brake noise as the pads never really "pull" away from the caliper. I hear my brakes sliding around the rotor a little when I'm cleaning the insides of my CCW's when I have it lifted like that.
Good luck !
I hope your just being overly cautious, and its not really an issue at all...
Thanks Mark! I will definately give that a try in the morning. And you sure are right about the dust Kinda makes me regret all the time I spent detailing prior to today. I do expect to hear some noise as the rotor spins between the pads but this is a LOUD rotational squeel only when I am at low speeds and more noticible when I am going around the turns in my neighborhood. It goes away when I apply the brakes or when I speed up. Hopefully it is just the newnest of the pad but I would expect to hear something from more than just one whouldn't you think? I will post what I find tomorrow after I get her up in the air. Thanks again! Anybody else got any ideas?

When I had mine off, one of my rears had that spring that holds the parking brake shoes come off. From then, the shoe was cocked to the side just a bit, and gave me fits getting the rotors on (and off). It was a bit tricky to get that spring to sit just right so I could get the rotors back on, from then on, no more sticking and rubbing. I also adjusted the shoes, but it wasn't that they were too far out, just that spring didn't let the shoes sit straight. The spring pops off real easy, so I'd say to check that.
Ok...I got her up in the air this morning. The rear wheels do spin freely with the car in neutral and the parking brake off. You can hear a little rubbing as the wheel turns which I expect until the newnest of the pads/rotors wear down. The springs for the parking brakes are in place so I dont think that is the cause and I cannot hear any excessive rubbing around the hub as i turn the wheels. I guess I'll just continue to drive it around and see if it resolves. My rotors do appear to have a nice layer of pad material applied from my bedding them yesterday. Hopefully the squeel I was hearing will go away and I cant wait till the dust dies down...my pads are Hawk ceramics which i bought because of the advertised low dust/low noise. If anybody else has any advice i'd appreciate it I'll keep you guys informed if I find anything else. Thanks!
I still suspect the parking brake-- Find a parking lot and drive it around to where it sqeaks-then lightly pull on the parking brake to see if the noise "changes" or goes away--If so it's the parking brake--Also check the replaced axle---May be rubbing somewhere on a line or sensor wire while the suspension is traveling

Thanks! That's a good idea to rule out the parking brake. I took her out today for about an hour out on some back roads I like to cruise. I applied and released the parking brake a couple of times and thought that was it because I never heard the squeal during my cruise at all.... Until I almost got home. Once when I turned onto the road to my neighborhood and once when I turned into my neighborhood. Both times it was just a slight "rotational" squeal for just a few seconds, not nearly as loud as the other day.
My question now is this...It definitely is better today so maybe everything is getting broken in good. It didn't occur as I was applying the brakes so I feel it wasn't the parking brake, although I will keep that in mind. Can a new CV axle take a little time to get broken in ? I only heard the noise today as I was turning withOUT any brakes being applied. Maybe the grease in the axle boot needs some heat to liquefy and fully coat the CV insides? What do you guys think?
Just thought Id throw this back up top and see if anybody can offer anything else. The CV axle breaking in is my first thought after yesterday. Thanks!
