I need help to diagnose a strange acting 2001 Vette. If I am driving along at about 50 MPH and take my foot off the gas pedal I can actually feel the rear of the car shift to the left and when I put my foot back on the gas the rear shifts back to right.I can actually make the rear of the car move back and forth by accelerating and deccelerating. It is not drastic but it is annoying and maybe unsafe? I just had a 4 wheel alignment and the car only has 40K on it. This happens at all speeds .I don't know what to look for. Any suggestions?.............Thanks
Some where in the alignment active components of the rear suspension,, You have lost motion. It will be small but still will have felt effects.
Recommendation:
Carefully,, jack and support the rear of the car on jack stands. Have someone crank the engine apply the brakes firmly and apply TORQUE to the drive train by slipping the clutch or thru the accelerator in drive/reverse.
When the torque is applied and released, look for any areas where the rear suspension is shifting or moving out of alignment.
Sounds like a worn or loose part then. You can also jack it up and apply force to the wheels in different directions and look for movement.
Post your alignment numbers. A crappy alignment can cause poor drivability. The crappy shops just stick each side "within specs". You need the alignment to be exactly equal side to side except for the front caster which can be slightly more on the passenger side to compensate for road crown.
Thanks-found the problem. Left rear tie rod end was bad. Had it replaced (not cheap) and had a good 4 wheel alignment. Drives like a new car now.
Now for my other problem. The ABS and the Traction control lights come on very often together. I can erase them by shutting off and turning on the ignition-anywhere from 2 times to ten or more times. The codes are : BO-RFA U1000H and U1064H . 28-TCS C1214H. Hope you can help..... Best Regards ....Brent
