I changed the oil in my 98 Vert today and when I went to start it I watched the oil pressure guage.. after about 2 -3 seconds no oil pressure..started again... no oil pressure.. I looked under the car and there was about 2-3 qts of oil on the ground.. The reason was, I failed to notice that the gasket from the old oil filter was stuck to the block when I installed the new filter and caused a massive leak... I re filled it with Mobil One and it seems to sound ok..
Any chance I may have caused and short or long term damage?
It did not run for more than 10 seconds max and did not rev past 1500 rpms or so....
I found the engine oiling diagram and it looks like pressurized oil from the oil pump feeds the main bearings before going to the oil filter.. So there should have been oil pressure on the main bearings when started.. The oil pan did not run dry.. I had about 3 qts remaining in the pan..
The main bearings are the biggest concern correct?
I had that happen a few years ago on a suv. Started backing out of the driveway and saw oil on the ground. Pulled back in corrected the problem, refilled oil and never had another issue with the engine.

You are probably fine, but just to clarify:
LS1s are NOT priority oiling. The mains see oil AFTER the cam bearings/lifters which see oil AFTER the pressure sensor which sees oil AFTER the filter.
This is part of the reason that the LSX block is so badass. Priority oiling ftw.
