Auto antenna problem

Auto antenna problem
The auto antenna on my 99 is stuck in the up position. When I turn the engine off, I hear three clunks from the antenna motor but the antenna stays up.
Any idea what is causing this and is it fixable or do I have to replace it?

Maybe the nylon ribbon that retracts it is broken or stripped. Unscrew the nut and pull it out. You can replace the antenna shaft and nylon gear strip without taking it out of the car. DeeGee did a writeup with pictures, so search for that for a tutorial. It only takes about 2 minutes unless the end piece is broken off in the motor gears, then you'll have to disassemble the antenna ***'y to get it out.
