Default Serious Help Needed!!!

Ok, so about a month ago I lost my one and only key to the car ( I know I was walking on thin ice already) and wouldn't ya know, I lost it . Now I need to get another key made and I need you guys help with mitigating cost. The dealership told me that they would pull the key code off the cylinder and read the vats code from the computer. Couldn't I pull the cylinder myself and record the code and get a vats bypass module for the time being?

My question is, can I remove the cylinder from my automatic car without the key, and if so, would it have my key code printed on it?

Also, if someone has a better idea, please tell me! If you know of a locksmith in South Jersey that can come to my house and help me that would be awesome as well!

How does this happen? I've owned 13 vehicles and never lost a key in my life.

Lost a spare Mercedes key once, the dealer just ordered me a new one by the SN
I've seen new car manual sets that have the key code to the car in case you loose one, they can order via SN
Thought GM did that as well?

I think the dealership should be able to cut a new one using the VIN from the car. They should also ask for proof that you own the car.

There should be no pulling of the switch.... dealer can cut via VIN and reprogram the VATS to work with the new key.

Find a different dealer.... or even a local locksmith
