Default Auto tranny tune question.

I asked this in the tuning section with one reply. Hoping I can get some light shed on it over here.

Good or Bad? I have heard both.
I just picked up a 99' Vert Auto w/19,XXX miles. My first Automatic in a Sports car. I don't care for the way it shifts especially 1st to 2nd gear shifts.
I was thinking about getting the Intune programmer and adjusting the shift points.

What say you???

RPM has this down to a science. Give them a call they will help you on this. It can be done from HPtuners.Robert

RPM transmissions.

What don't you like? Shift speed (mph), harshness, softness?

theres actually a few in-the-DIC options for the tranny. other than that, a simple $200 predator (much less than that used) will do this, or HPtuners for a little more. might as well get an hptuners, cus its not worth it spending $200 on a predator just to spend $200-600 on hptuners later.

Softness, it doesn't seem crisp? It's not slipping or anything. I know some of my dislike is the fact that it is an Auto since coming from manuals my whole life.
I like the ease of the Auto. I just wish it shifted better.

The transmission temperature display is the only one that I'm aware of. What are the other transmission options?

I'm still skeptical about that. How did you enter that mode on the DIC?

There is nothing on the DIC other than trans oil temp.

OP: Someone with HP Tuners can set when your upshifts and downshifts happen (MPH and Throttle position) for each gear. It can also set how fast the shift happens (mine are set to 200mSec.). The TCC (torque converter clutch) can be set to what gear/MPH it will engaged at.

A properly tuned A4 will make the car feel completely different (i.e. alive).

Do you have a recommended set up, for example, your set up for the MPH/throttle and etc? I have the same problem he has, I love my car, but I really dont like how it shifts. Sometimes, at low speed (30/35 mph) it keeps going up/down/up/down - it is just annoying. Also, mine jerks a lot from first to second when pressed hard. Thanks!

just went out and looked, and it says 1 with an up arrow and 2 with a down arrow. thought that related to something in shift speed?

You're probably talking about a programmer that's connected to the OBDII port. You can't change anything from the DIC alone!

i did use a predator to change the shift points, but thought that 1/2 arrow thing with "delay time" related to the shifting. maybe that relates to the driver key fob? dunno.

yea i wasnt claiming to do anything factory. from the factory it shifted like a car who's average owner was 54..

i didnt play with the DIC (really, it doesnt get old) til after doing that. thought perhaps that was what the option was referring to.
