Default solution to ABS traction system problem

Hi all. I have a 1998 convertible that I had diagnosed that my EBCM and both front wheel wire harnesses to it were bad. This was from John L Sullivan Chevy in Roseville Ca. They told me the ECBM was no longer available anywhere, including aftermarket, basically rendering my vette unsellable and worthless. I thought I would fix it myself, but couldn't get the ECBM off. I sprayed DW40 on both ECBM connectors before plugging it back in. My ABS brakes now work perfectly after being down for over 2 years. What a miracle that DW40 fixed it and the dealer was totally wrong. I wonder how many of you went through the same thing, only to put out money that was unnessesary?

It certainly pays to own a service manual, meter, and learn how to troubleshoot problems yourself.

Since the DW40 worked for 1 week before the Abs light came back on, I figured it's got to be a connection problem so I'm going to put some "conductive grease" in the connectors and see what happens. I'll let you all know the outcome.

Just for fun, switch the front wheels' ABS wires from side to side and see if your problem goes away.

"conductive grease" is not recommended and could make things worse!

At this point, I don't think it could get much worse. Why do you think the grease would be bad?

subscibed. I get the damn warning off and on as well. I can actually feel a difference in my power steering, many times I notice it before the light even come on my dash. I've been wanting to clean all the grounds and see if it fixes it. Forget all the glound plug locations and proper way to clean them.

I went to a dealership, for an oil change, eight years ago, and that was the last time. The oil change was close to $100.00 and it took all day.

Dealerships force us to do all our own work. I like it that way.

If you have a poor connection, putting grease between the contacts will insulate it even more. The grease is NON CONDUCTIVE not conductive. If it were conductive, it would short everything out.

It's silver conductive grease. I'm only using it on the female connector and will make sure not to have any excess on the outside. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Take a look at the connectors. There might be a damaged female pin or 2 that needs to be bent a little or replaced. Fix it correctly and it won't keep acting up.

Well the conductive grease didn't change a thing. It's made with silver and is highly conductive. I'm disappointed.

Now that you've made a mess of it, take the connectors apart (yes they come completely apart) and clean them with electrical contact cleaner. While you have them apart you will see how to bend them correctly to make better contact. It's not obvious when they are assembled. Then reverse them right to left when you put them back on.

Good luck. Hope this helps.
