Default Drivetrain noise VIDEO INSIDE

Hi,

I'm trying to locate a noise problem and I'm not getting any further. It's a kind of howling that will come on shortly and then again dissapears.
It's not a differential noise for sure since I recently put in a new differential. The noise didn't change after the change.
It also does not seem to matter if the drivetrain is under load or not.
I caught it on video and it gives a very goog idea about what it sounds like.

http://youtu.be/wuLLAg6HZFg

Anyone can take a guess what could be that noise ?
Thanks,
Alex

First thing that I would check is exhaust system clearance and look for body or drive train contact somewhere.

Do you think this sounds like an exhaust clearance issue ? I'm just wondering since I'm running the stock TI system besides kooks LT headers.
Also, won't an exhaust clearance issue be more obvious if the noise would be occuring in higher rpms, when the exhaust moves around the most ?

I would definitely recommend checking the exhaust. I have an 01Z with the TSP headers/x-pipe and I had not properly put the system on. One part of it was hitting the car at certain RPMs and movement and it sounded just like that. Originally I thought it was a drivetrain noise, but it turned out to be exhaust.

I can't seem to locate where the exhaust would cause a rattle.

Does this also sound like a type of transmisson related noise ?
I do use a c6z06 shifter, I remember there was an issue about them causing a type of rattle, does it sound like that ?
Or a worn bearing in the transmission maybe ?

Here is another video of it. It occurs two or three times after another an then it dissapears again. It's easy to hear, I just can't find what it's causing it.

Sounds like it might be a bad hub. Sounds like when one of my rear hubs went out.

Have you checked inside the torque tube, maybe a bearing?

Update: I did check the exhaust for clearance issues but couldn't find anything that would cause a problem.

As for the torque tube bearings, all of them were swaped out for new ones. The ones that came out were fine never the less. Unfortunately that TT bearings had no impact on the issue.

Is it possible that a wheel bearing is causing the issue ? The thing that leads me away from a wheel bearing is the fact that it's really not there all the time.

How about the C6Z06 shifter ? I remember some of them were getting noisy after some time. Does that sound anything like that ?

I belive it can easiest be triggered when you start to coast after some spirited driving.

Any other ideas please as to what might cause this annoying issue ?

Appreciate the help,
Alex

Also, does a worn motor mount sound like a possible cause ?

How did you 'check' the exhaust? Mine was doing similar noise 'at times' and I could push on the exhaust tips with my foot, like sideways with my foot and make it stop briefly. I found a exhaust shop and a young man that I asked a few questions. I was doubtful about him. He said he did retro rods, custom exhaust work. I stayed with car. Well he knew how too lift the car and went hitting exhaust with his hand, loosened it,shifted it. Welded a spot or two after removing broken clamps and such. Charged me $30 bucks. I left. FIXED!!!!. Went back later, thanked him and gave him a $10 buck tip.

Hello, does this noise happen at different engine RPM's?
Does this noise happen in all trans gears (1 thru 6)?
Do you have an aftermarket clutch pilot bearing and throw out bearing?

Next time the car starts to make the noise, apply some peddle pressure to the clutch peddle (but do not push the peddle all the way down) as you just want to put a load on the throw out bearing to see if the noise changes.
