Newbie question:
I just got into the C5 world with a 2001 base model that has Z06 wheels added by a previous owner. Not surprisingly for a 10+ year old car, the TPMs on all tires are not functioning. I don't know, however, if they're not registering because the batteries are out, or if I don't have the TPMs installed to begin with.
I'd like to get them back up and running, but I don't know if I need the units themselves, or if I need to give the battery swap a try. Is there any way to tell if the TPMs are there without taking the tires off the rims?
I agree with the others that looking at the valve stem can determine if the TPMS are there or not. (Well, 99% anyway. There are a few metal valve stems such as my factory '85 Corvette, but they are not very common.)
If it does have them, I would try retraining them before you take them out for a new battery or replacement. They may not be registering because they are not trained to the car. Training can be done through the DIC and holding a magnet next to the TPMS one wheel at time.
DeeGee - many thanks! I have the C21xx malfunction codes for all four tires currently.
I'm going to run by the dealer today and see if I can get a repair history on the car (I want to make sure the column lock has been addressed). While I'm there, I'll see if they have that info in their system, too.
