Default Memory loss...

New to me 2001 vert. Radio stations as well as seat memories fail. When I drive I reset them but they don't stay. I turn off the car, restart and the settings are gone. I could assume it was the constant on the radio but the seats/mirrors too... I'm at a loss.

Anyone got any idea?

I think it's time for a new battery.

When you set the memory, are you holding down the memory buttons long enough to hear the two-beep confirmation signal?

Put a DC Volt meter on the battery terminals. Have someone COLD START the engine and observe how LOW the battery output voltage drops.

If it drops below 10 VDC, you have a battery issue and need to recharge it or if its OLD replace it. That will solve your issues.

NOTE. Each time it does this, your PCM will report EMISSIONS NOT READY if you ever have to take it to the emissions station for sa recheck.

Happened to me just yesterday. Batt was weak when I started in the AM. But no issues. Cold start again leaving work, the clock reset.
Hmmm. the batt charged up with the charger rather quickly, but still may be bad.

The interesting thing about these car is that with the gear reduction starter, the batt can be rather poor, but the car will still start. They just don't draw the massive current like to older starters do.

If you feel the batt is new, time to start looking for unexpected current draw when the car is parked. I need to do that as well.

The thing is that the battery is a brand new yellow top optima. I don't think it is an issue. VERY good voltage. I'm confused.

Well,,, If all you say is factual,,,you either have a bad connection somewhere or the memory module is losing power.

-Check the battery connections Tighten to 11ft/lbs torque 97-03 C5

- Loose dirty connections on the module

- Loose or corroded fuses in the fuse box.

The Optima Yellow Top is a deep cycle battery, and not intended to be used as a starting battery. It might be causing a low voltage problem, while the engine is cranking, which could cause the memory loss.

Measure the voltage at the battery terminals while you crank the engine for about 10 seconds. It should not drop below 10 volts while cranking. (Holding the gas pedal to the floor will prevent the engine from starting during the test.)
