My car was tested this morning during the San Diego Dyno Day get- together. My first run indicated only 303.4, but the second run showed a gratifying 315.9 HP. Here's the data:
Strong LS1 of loose Dyno. My car dyno'd in at 293 and I had Corsa Indy's, 02 LS6 lid and K&N filter. Not to mention it's an MN6.
But like others have said if your not happy with your dyno numbers find another. So that's what I'm going to do. At least I'll know if it was the dyno's or the car.
I'd love 315 right now if all I have is 293 with some mods.
That thing is running really rich above 5000 rpm. There is definitely more power with just tuning. Pretty impressive.
One guy in a Z06 gained 9 or 10 HP just by leaning out the mixture. In fact, the shop owner told us he's seen up to 40HP increases just by leaning out the ratio so that it approaches the mid-14s.
Also, I believe that what Frank (NYtoCA) did to get better numbers out of his LS1.
JerryL,
My 68 had the mods - boy did that car sound great! Speaking of sound, there were a couple of cars there that had Borla Stingers and Frank also had the Borla shorties. Both cars sound great, although it's obvious that the cats cut back on what could be a loder, 60s sound, if you know what I mean. I don't think any neighbor would complain about the sound coming from a Stinger-equiped C5, early in the morning. It is fairly mellow at idle.

I'm in the same situation. Even with a few intake and exhaust mods I can't average over 300 hp---and this was with six dyno pulls, three each, a year apart. The mechanic said that I should have done better with my mods. Maybe someone has an idea to help us...besides maybe trying a different dyno...but when I went, there were 15-20 C5's at each meeting.
Or you could just go to the track and see what your car is really capable of doing. A piece of paper really never proves anything on the street/strip.
Does everyone else find dyno machines that are not accurate as annoying as i do?
I did notice a couple of strange occurences while there at the Dyno shop. One guy had his very new Z06 (still had dealer plates) tested soon after he drove in (my car sat for at least 30 minutes before being tested).
His first run produced 370HP peak, but his second run saw only 350. Obviously, very few things like this have simple explainations. I have read of many dyno runs where the 2nd and third runs produce ever-increasing numbers and I attributed my higher second run to this reason, whether it's because of a computer "learning" response or something else.
The other question I have is why the peak numbers at the top of the chart are slightly higher than those in the data list. Does anyone know why this is so?
The 370 hp Z was not completely stock, had a Halltech T1. My 02 vert w/ a BW and Borla Stingers did 318 rwhp. I was a little disappointed, was hoping for 320's , but we always want more, don't we ?
