Default Air Intakes?

I was looking into a VaraRam system, but what are some other good options? Any one in particular that one would recommend?

Thanks!

There's a DIY option which mimics the Callaway "honker" instake. It requires about $70 in parts and a few hours of your time.

Search for "flip tie" or "zip tie" intake and you'll find it if you're interested.

According to my tuner and serious racer since the 70's who now runs a Corvette only performance shop, the Vararam intake is a crock of $hit for lack of a better word. It is a terribly restrictive system until you get a ram air effect going, which doesn't even occur till 100+ mhp. So they dyno very low and rob power, and are useless for drag racing, and most tracks as the ram air effect is rarely ever happening and hurting performance until if does.
Now IMO it cant be worse than the stock box, and has the potential to be better at really high speeds. But more air is still better than cold air. The Vararam does not provide enough air. A good open filter with a nonrestrictive bridge etc will help out all around, give good numbers, better throttle response, and the best over all use of the vehicle.
My vote is for the K&N intake. Great quality, and used by most shops for a reason. Power gains throughout the entire powerband, safe from the elements, easier install, and I can give you the power numbers my base model 99 is running. Quite impressive for what it is.

My choice would be the Callaway Honker. Very low restriction system, good filtration, easy to install and very well built ! Do a search, there have been posts on dyno results. Good bang for the buck.

Best bang for the buck, very nice finish, looks factory, easy to install, large filter, easy to clean.

I like my blackwing for the simple fact that it was easy to install and I got it for super cheap. Couldn't feel any seat of the pants difference though.
