Default Correct 2002 TPMS Torque

Got a new set of wheel and TPMS's for my 02, so I did a forum search on proper sensor torque. Got conflicting information. Some said 35 inch lb and other posts said 62 in lb.
What is the proper torque?

Domestic vehicles: 35 lb in.
Export vehicles: 106 lb in.

These values are listed in the 2001 factory service manuals. There may have been an update bulletin with a higher torque value listed since then. The new torque values would probably apply to all 2001-2004 TPMS sensors.

2000 FSM says 106 lb in. for 97-2000 TPMS. (just in case someone searches for this topic later)

Default TPMS Torque

FWIW my Schrader 28006s (early style) OEM replacements specify 62 in. lb..

Looked up the Schrader application for a '02-also 62:

Yes. And this thread will come up anytime anyone searches for "TPMS torque."
It's always useful to have all cross year info for stuff like this so you don't have to search through a 100 different threads wondering why there are so many different torque specs

Ok then I guess the final answer would be:
OEM 97-00: 106 in. lb.
Replacement 97-00: 62 in. lb.
OEM 01-04: 35 in. lb.
Replacement 01-04: 62 in. lb.

FWIW, I don't know where GM gets its numbers. In researching a replacement for a second set of wheels for my car, found a site that listed Schrader as the OEM supplier for BOTH styles. Who knows?

Thank you guys, I think 35 is what I'll go with. The sensors are ones I bought from the dealer.

If it was me, I'd go with the Schrader number. I also read someplace in my research that the only difference between the two was the color of the sensor. GM's are black and the OEM replacements are reddish orange.

Just looked at my early OEM sensor replacements. They have a stepped seal similar to what you see on premium metal racing type valve stems. Maybe all the newer ones have been "improved". Again who knows.

Since Schrader MAKES the part for GM to GM's SPECIFICATIONS, I don't believe it would be classified as "something you read on the internet" when you take their torque values into account. FWIW.

The service manual was updated to a higher value than listed in the original 2002 version. You need to find the bulletin for the correct value.

This is most likely the updated value that vettenuts mentioned. I would use that torque value of 62 lb in, and will also re-torque my new sensors.

Good info Phil and vettenuts.
