You can see and examine the actuator from under the drivers dash. See if the actual shaft that moves the temp door is moving when you adjust the temp/

You guys are out-farking-standing!
If it is dry tomorrow, I'll be under the dash again.

Those look like reference marks on the housing (full hot/full cold?) so I would pay attention to that when installing a new one.

"Air outlet selector and fan work correctly"

On the broken unit you pictured and I commented on, the vacuum manifold controls the air outlet-where it comes out-defrost/floor heat/dash vents/etc.. If that is working, I'd be leaning toward the above mentioned actuator (and a broken gear as Bill indicated). Good luck.

P.S.-DOES look like it has reference marks at full hot and cold as well as at a "center" position shown on the picture of the new part. That will definitely come into play installing/indexing the new one.

Default No Progress Update

Just to update - Short version: I did not pull the driver's lower dash panel today, so I could not see the actuator.

Awoke today with what I hope is a 24-hour wellness problem. Before I started looking at anything, I took the car out for half an hour since the weather was dry and the car had not been started for three months except for Thursday.
I left the temperature control in Full Hot yesterday afternoon. Today I had hot air from the heater.
For grins, I set the control back to Full Cold when returning, but no response. (Hey, magic can't happen? )

Notes unrelated to temperature control:
I put the passenger fuse box cover on with the open end pointed up rather than down. The d*mn thing would not seat where the screw would catch. SO the Fuse Relay Center lettering is upside down & under the flexible trim under the dash. They put two threaded holes in the fuse box floor, so why not use it?
(But there must be a reason they had the open end down from the factory. Udder Drainage?)

The left front turn signal/DRL bulb died while I was out. No problem. I have a spare & it's a 15 minute job, right? Removed the headlight shroud, popped the the socket out & pulled the bulb easily. But then I dropped the replacement bulb into the bowels of the underhood pit when I tried to seat it. Let me say that finding that bulb was easier than finding the headlight shroud screw that I once dropped years ago, but it still took 15-20 minutes.

And the results of these two efforts, along with my nose performing a Niagara Falls impression with minor volcanic eruptions, is why I did not drop the lower panel on the dash today. "You gotta know when to fold 'em"

Sorry for the threadjack... figured continuing the conversation here was better than starting up a new nearly identical thread.

I just got done replacing the steering wheel position sensor, and soon as I was done the HVAC no longer adjusts for driver or passenger. I have the same scenario where vents and fan speed are completely adjustable, but the temperature stays on full hot regardless of where I set the temp on the HVAC controls.

Is there something that I could have disconnected or screwed up while I was in there that would have blocked or disabled the blend door / actuator? The car is a 2002 Z06 with dual climate, and there are no active or history HVAC codes.

Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions you can toss my way.

Check the HVAC fuses first.

J
Use a meter and actually check the voltage on the fuse to chassis ground to make sure that you have proper power to the unit.

Checked everything, it was the HVAC temperature actuator that was bad. Replaced on the drivers side and all is good there.

Now I get the fun of replacing the one on the passenger side too, far as I can tell the dash has to come out for that, starting up a new thread to see if there are any shortcuts...
