What color is the power wire on an 01's fuel pump connector (going into the pump pump bucket) I have a 4 wire connector.
1 black
1 blue
2 gray (I believe they were both gray at least)
Found it, will email you and post it here later. Pump appears to have one gray for power and the black for ground. Let us know if this does not help or if you have more questions.
Am somewhat confused with what you are trying to do, however, if you want the powered Gray wire to the pump, it should be the only one with 12 volts when powered (ignition on). Do you know how to use a voltmeter?
I'm essentially making my own hotwire kit. Need to know which one is the pumps power so I can tie the new wire in right at the plug. I thought about using a mutimeter, but figured I would ask here first. Thanks for your help. I just checked with a meter and it seems the outermost gray wire is what I was looking for.
Glad to help. Now I am curious. I think of "hotwire" being the method to start and run a car around the ignition switch or bypass some type of controller. What is your intent? I remember I had a 1968 MG with the stock electric (SU I think) fuel pump (actually the 2 nd or 3rd replacement pump). They had a problem of having the contacts arc over, probably needed a condenser/capacitor. Anyway I was in Key West and it failed. A friend and I hot wired around it and ran 2 wires into the care. Drove all the way back to South Carolina by tapping the two wire together to pump fuel. Next thing I did was buy and install a Stewart Warner electric pump and never had another problem. That was about 40 years ago.
No no. A hot wire kit in relation to the fuel system is essentially just larger power wires. Our stock 18awg wires are known to lose a few volts by the time the power gets back to the pump which drasticly lowers fuel output. Not a problem for stock cars, but its another story for modified ones that need all the fuel they can get. Racetronics and Caper's electronics both sell premade kits to upgrade the wiring. I made my own. Basically I have 10awg wire running directly from the alternator to the back where the stock pump wiring will kick on a weatherproof 40amp replay which then allows the 10awg to feed the pump instead of the stock 18awg.
