Default ceramic vs wrap

Finally got my headers out so it's time to coat/wrap them. Kooks headers. I've been reading that wrap ruins headers. This car is a weekend cruiser and doesn't see rain. About how long would they last wrapped?

Drop the coin on the coating... You will be much happier!!! Your headers will also not crack and smell weird if they ever get wet!

Do not wrap them. The wrap looks terrible and if it gets wet it will retain the moisture causing them to oxidize. If you feel the need to do anything, ceramic coat them.

Oh good lord!!! Do not wrap them!

Either leave them bare or spend the money to have them ceramic coated!

ok, I'll go for the coating. They have a polished that is good for 1300, and a black good to 1600. What kind of exhaust temps are you seeing on a supercharged ls motor?

I would coat them inside and out. Check out Jet-Hot for the coating.

If you are looking for appearance, coating hands down. But the wraps dooes a much better job keeking heat out of the engine compartment. Had jet hot coated headers on my TA. You could still grill hot dogs near those. if you do wrap them, use the sealer.
BTW those were outside coat only... may be that the inside coating would have helped.

I've had coated and not coated headers on different cars. Really doesn't seem to make much difference in heat. Coated will still burn anything that touches them. But they do look nicer coated.

If heat is your main concern, do both. The coating will prevent any possible oxidation due to moisture retention.

Keep in mind, the Kooks headers he's debating on are stainless. So while wrapping headers can trap moisture against the header if the car is sitting outside and not in use, stainless construction renders the moisture fairly inconsequential. Also the stainless material contains exhaust heat inside the pipe more effectively than mild steel, so the ceramic coating is more cosmetic than anything.

I personally wouldn't wrap anything unless it was turbo hotside components in a cramped engine bay. Once it cures it gets you itchy as hell when you work on the car.
