I just put in my 3.42 differential. Im at the point now i need to slide in the axels into each side of the differential. I just gave some good pulls and they slid right out. Is there a certain trick to sliding axels back in? Also every thing is connected on the other end of the axel. I pulled the whole crossmember complete when pulling out the differential.
They take a little persuasion. You might add just a bit of gear oil to the splines and use a little thin grease on the outside of the axle where the seal runs.
Are you using stock GM axles? I remmember reading that a few folks have had issues with replacement parts not having good splines and being very hard to install.
They can be a pain to get back in but,,,,,,,,,,, they will pop in. I had one so stubbron that I started the engine, put it in gear and massaged the CV housing to get it to pop over the spring clip!
