Default check engine lights

Hey guys I need some help here. A local shop ordered me a borla LT header kit with X pipe and no cats. I planned to put this kit on along with the stinger axleback and a cold air intake and dyno tune. Plans changed, I just got a call from the shop advising me not to do this and it will throw all kinds of codes on my car and will not right right. I know this is no way in hell true considering everyone is running systems like this. I need some guidence as to what to repsond. What do you guys recommend? Is it this particular header kit that i shouldnt go with? I figured Borla all the way through would be good.

The no cat's will trigger the CEL's for SURE. They have to be tuned out with a TECH II or something like HPTuners.

Okay so you're saying if there is no cats I can just get it tuned with an HP and it should clear it and it will run just fine? Or do you suggest I just add hi flow cats? The system ordered is not meant for cats so I would need to figure something out.

You can get the codes tuned out but in some states they actually look under the car. No cats, no pass.

If you do not have the rear 02 sensors installed you will get codes immediately , those have to be tuned out. you can drive it with these codes however. also sometimes you can the code for slow sensors if the front ones are too far away from the original location so many people put the rears in the front hole with adapters. something about how they are quicker to respond or something.

WHY,,,,,,,,,,,, are you ordering a system without CATS. I'm not a tree hugger but,, what is your PRIMARY reason for NO CATS??

If it is more power,, that reasoning is poor because CAT removal only gets you approx 5-10 HP on a mildly modded engine. They really are not a major HP restriction.

Your shop does not sound like they are very experienced with modern engine management systems.. or at least how to deal with modification related computer faults.

OR

They told you what emissions issues you would have and that you may have to have them tuned out for an additional cost.

Some headers position the O2 sensors so far back from the head that they do not function properly.
To remedy that issue, you can use an adapter harness and install an after the CAT sensor where the normal sensors are. They work better cause they have a higher wattage heater in the O2 sensor.

There are ways to make any header work,, Some are just more difficult to install than than others.

I have Stainless works headers on my 02 ZO6 and XS Power headers on my 06 C6
Both have CATS and I never had any DTCs or emissions issues with either system

After a long day I sent back the borla headers. I couldn't find one review or person running it so I figured it couldn't be a good thing.

Instead I ordered bbk long tubes with cats and x pipe. Will I need o2 sensor extensions?

My new setup will be BBK cold air intake, BBK long tube then cats xpipe and borla stinger 2 exhaust. Any opinions or advice?

I completely agree with BC.

Regardless of brand, you're MUCH better off in the long run keeping cats on a street driven car.

Yea I agree now. I am getting the cats. Install is now pushed back 10 days until headers come in. I have everything else ready to go.
