Id pull the valve covers and make sure my rockers have no slack. If you find one that does then what youre hearing could be a failing or collapsed lifter. That what it sounds like to me.

i was torn between that, lifter, and exhaust leak, but he posted a few back saying he fixed it
i currently have an exhaust leak, and i pulled into autozone along the road, in case i needed tools, and took the valve covers off and checked all of my rockers for slack, too
it's just an exhaust leak with me, too. couldnt find the gaskets in my garage while putting the headers back on.. RTV'ed it.. bleh.
^^
Guess I missed his post. I didnt think exhaust because usually an exhaust leak doesnt go away like he said it would. Also I forgot its a stock motor, im used to loud exhaust on cammed cars. Much harder to find exhaust leaks. Lol
We had one like that not too long ago. It turned out to be a loose spark plug. It is not uncommon for some shops to miss tightening one or not putting quite enough torque on the plugs because they are worried about aluminum heads. Which they should be to some extent.
I would if it wasn't my daily and I didn't have to fire it up at 6am everyday.. BELIEVE ME... I'm even going to go with a 114 LSA, even though I want a 113 or 112.
How crazy sounding would the 232 or whatever the next size up be??? I'm open to convincing

SOB... its back.. similar noise but its different in a way thats scaring me a bit.
The vid I just took was me getting home after work. When I pulled into the garage its was purring like a kitten, gave it a little rev (2500k) and the ticking immediately comes at full force and stays for awhile.. then goes away. This morning it didnt start ticking for atleast 20 seconds then goes away after afew mintues.
Before anyone asks.. I haven't been going crazy with my new mods..I'm saving the little time I have for that when shes cammed so not even a burnout yet. Punched it twice after the install just to see if I could feel an improvement.. since then nothing over 3k I take it nice and easy.
Also the video cuts out short but when I rev it goes up with it.. and again the rev actually brought it on.. it sounded perfect when I pulled in and put it in park.
Thanks in advance guys... oh and I did something stupid and used the paper gaskets that came with the headers hoping thats the problem.
If you have an exhaust leak,, it will TAP louder when accelerating and almost quit when de accelerating.
If you find out that its a header leak, purchase the OEM Late model (MLS ) Multi Level Steel header gaskets with the round port holes.

Yeah I planned on doing that anyway when I did the cam Ill be ordering in afew weeks.. Is it even safe to drive just with the chance it could be more than an exhaust leak.. I have to work in the morning and I cant do anything tonight I live in an apt and my garage is downstairs and very small.. theres a freakin monsoon here in Fl and the rain just flies right in.. Should I get a ride to work??
I woke up early and put the old oem gasket back on the drivers side and the noise is gone. I should have listened. Everyone says to throw out the paper gaskets. Man it sounded bad too. Really sounded mechanical it gave me a good scare.
I had a '96 that had a ticking...dealership said "that's normal." What dip-*****.....Pulled the valve cover and there was a rod rubbing on the head. It was put in incorrectly from the factory. Had a service tech/Corvtette specialist come to the house and he confirmed the problem...Chevy replaced all rods and one lifter in my shop! My 2000 has the same ticking as in the video...cold starts = ticking that goes away after 3 or 4 minutes. Thought it was a lifter at first but now I'm leaning towards an exhaust gasket leak. Seems to be common with the C-5's. One tech told me the rear bolts on the header tend to loosen creating a slight leak. As soon as the header heats, it expands and the ticking goes away. I tried to tighten the bolts but didn't do much good.

I had all kinds of leaks when I got the car.. it was only at 50k and was obviously garaged and well taken care of so I wouldn't doubt your 2000 has leaks. years are years no matter the mileage.
Man the guy at the dealer that changed my oil when I first got it couldn't close the hood.. they had to have me do it.. horrible... oh and they over filled it.
