Default 2001 z06

Hello, I just last week purchased a 2001 Z06 with a six speed. The car runs great but, I do have one issue. When shifting from 1st to 2nd, sometimes it just won't go. I have noticed if I keep pressure on the stick to the left, it shifts ok. Is this a common problem or I'm I just not used to it. The car only has 14,500 miles on it and drives like new.

Thanks in advance,

Rick:

Computer Aided Gear Selection. Basically, if you shift too late under a light load, it will try to make you shift to 4th. Supposedly, it has something to do with getting better fuel economy to avoid the gas guzzler tax. There should be a "1to4 shift" light that comes up on the dash when it does it. There are ways to get rid of that "feature," including changing driving style or purchasing a "CAGS eliminator"

Rick

Before you get too far off the track of the problem,, I agree,, the next time that you expierence the second gear issue,, see if the 1st to 4th shift CAGS is ON. If so,, it just a CAGS issue and perfectly normal. When you shift under LIGHT throttle, CAGS kicks in to save fuel.

When "hklvette" stated "There are ways to get rid of that "feature," including changing driving style" if you mash the throttle a little mor aggressively, the PCM will cancil the CAGS command!

I seldom had the CAGS intervention cause I drove it like I stole it.

Recommendation. if you DEATH GRIP the shift handle when you shift, its easy to shift from THIRD GEAR back to second.

If you ACCIDENTLY shift back into SECOND GEAR at Wide Open Throttle when your at 6000 RPM in third gear, the engine will mechanically spin up to some where close to 11000 RPM! That will NOT be a good event.

I ditched the stock shifter for a KIRBAN Shifter.

Bill
