idling too high
I just did a 3,000 mile loop to Phoenix and back and the car started idling at 700 rpm and slowly increased to 8-900, 900 when the a/c is on. Now its 850 all the time.. Should be 650-700 max at idle.
Car is an 01 Z with 25 k miles , no mods of any sort all original plugs wires etc.
Any ideas ???? thanks

Check that too BUT,,,,,,,,,,, the most likely cause is a vacuum leak.Look at all the PCV rubber fittings. They rot and crack!! That allows un-metered air into the engine and thus, a higher idle.
Also check the ducting between the MAF and TB for an air tight seal.

checked all the hoses, put another new hoe on an restarted the motor, no results, tightened up the clamps on the MAF ,. checked the bolt torque settings on the intake, and the throttle for loose bolts all to no avail, no codes either. did all at running temperature .I also got some starting fluid and sprayed it at all junction points between the MAF and the throttle and no joy.
Bought some seafoam , will this help to clean the throttle body ?
found oil residue in the throttle bore . Must need a pcv oil catch can.
