Default Porting & Polishing Throttle Body

Winter projects coming to an end, but maybe I can squeeze in one more, porting and polishing a stock 04 throttle body, does anyone have a pictorial of this project, or opinions is it worth the effort.
In the Northeast the weather has been so bad I may have plenty of time it it's worth it?

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, It does make a little difference and it looks real nice,,, BUT,, it may effect your tune if you port it. I did on for a buddy and he loved it and he didnt have any idle or Part throttle issues.

I would say if you added headers, a cold air intake ported the manifold and ported the TB and had a tune lined up, GO FOR IT.

You just reshape the opening a little so the air flow is more laminar. Your not opening up the size of the TB.

To do the job correctly you should fill in the opening for the PCV air inlet port as seen in the attached photo. This is a SHANER (work of art) professional port job. This is as good as it gets for C5

Have the shorty headers, I know the long tubes are much better, but don't want to deal with cats, etc, so this may be a nice addition. What type of polishing tools did you use?

Here is another fine example of a Shaner ported TB and exterior polished by the CF member known as the Clown . This bad boy will be for sale in a few weeks as I am going to a Fast 92 & VMax ported LS2 TB. I will hate to see this work of art go!

I spent an hour of so doing my Buddy's and did not fill in the void for the PCV air feed:

Heres the one that I did. Believe it or not, the top is as smooch as the bottom. Thats a weird reflection that you see that makes it look wavy.

I use an air motor, aluminum burrs, medium grade sanding drum and sanding cartridges, wet and dry paper, 180, 240, 400, 600, 1000 and polishing compound.

I have about $350 into in to it but would be a great addition to someone that like to show the car, with the added bonus of performance. Not sure what I will ask but they will be getting a sweet piece of bling!

It's a shame you have to cover it with an air bridge. . . and a hood.

What's the purpose of filling the PCV air inlet port?

The idea of porting is to allow the flow of air to enter the TB mouth and get to the throat without any or as much turbulence.

When you port you smooth out anything that can cause turbulence. The blocked opening where the PCV gets its air from is a big source of turbulence.

When you add the brass pipe and fill in the area, you just reduce the turbulence in that area.

Attached is a NON PORTED C5 TB.. You can see all the sharp transitions and not smooth mouth opening.

NOTE!!! Porting a C5 throttle body is NOT going to give you earth shattering performance gains. You will notice a little better throttle response and a few hp.

I know I'm digging up an old thread here, but I've done a good amount of searching , and started a new thread a week ago with no additional insight. I happen to have a spare c5 throttle body and would like to port it, polish, and epoxy like Bills photos above. The reason for this is it will cost me nothing but time as I have tools and am looking to gain the experience. I will couple the throttle body onto a FAST 78 intake manifold that I have already ported and refurbished. The current mod levels of my motor (mild cam and headers) do not necessitate me spending big bucks on a 90mm TB and manifold. I completely understand what I need to do regarding the epoxy, and eliminating the ridge, especially on the top side of the throttle body. My question is about the ridge along the south side of the throttle body mouth, the blade actually seems to ride along the ridge and create a seal more or less until the blade opens up past 15-20%. If I sand down that lower ridge, it seems like it would allow more air in sooner, woudn't that kinda of create a runaway idle, or will the PCM just adjust for it?

Maybe the cleaner way to ask this question is do I eliminate the ridge so that the diameter of the throttle body opening before the air blade is the same as the diameter after the air blade? Or is it a bit more nuanced?
