I only have 40k miles in my 03 and have a drivetrain whine. Is it likely it could be an issue with my car ? Is there an easy way for me to get a look at them or does the tube need to be removed ?

If they are going bad you wont have a whine you will have a rattling sound like rocks in a can, if its whining it is most likely the Diff gears
I just wanted to update this thread for anybody researching in the future. I finally got my couplers back from DSS and comparing my before and after measurements it looks like they milled off about 1.5mm and now they fit into the torque tube perfectly. Here's another picture comparing it to the old one.
Despite the headache and downtime these caused me, I'm content with my purchase. They really are a nice product despite being a little overpriced in my opinion. And during some of my downtime I cleaned up the tranny and diff, resealed everything, coated it, and installed a dte brace. Hopefully everything works as good as it looks, lol
