Default Warning! NRG lug nuts!

So I posted another thread about the ARP 2.5" studs and NRG lug nuts I ordered. I was pretty excited about having a nice looking setup that was supposedly bullet proof. Able to stand up to instillation and removal time and time again was the claim. But this thread is a warning.

Ill keep this short. The NRG lug studs are a complete scam. They could not even hold up to one pass at 100ft lbs. I did not use power tools, and know what I'm doing with lug nuts. I spun them on by hand, gave a little tighten in a star pattern, and went to torque. They immediately stripped the threads right out! Im so pissed. Complete waste of my time.

Im going to go through the fight for a refund tomorrow. The ARP's are fine as you would expect. But for a company with as good a name as NRG... this is very surprising. $130.00 lug nuts.. wow.

Thank's for the warning.

However I have never heard of them.

Most likely because I've never been in the market for lug studs/ nuts.

Wow; dangerous - 100 lbs is not an excessive amount of torque for a lug nut. Does ARP make lug nuts? If so I would go with theirs.

When I was in the import scene, this company was all the rage. All over magazines etc. They make some of the most beautiful parts you could imagine. Look them up if you feel like it. "NRG innovations". I researched and contemplated so long on the setup I want. I literally am in shock.

Yep, 12x1.5 60* conical seat. Spoke to the vendor and everything before pulling the trigger.

Time to speak to the vendor again.

Glad that you found this out on install; instead of on the road or track!

$130 for lug nuts?! Wow. The $30 set from autozone has lasted me years with no issues and theyve been torqued down to 100ftlbs countless times. No issues at the track either.

I use these black ones with my black wheels. They got chrome too. At the actual store they usually have the pack of 20 nuts for around $30-35. Check them out. Take the money you save and buy a few 12pks of your favorite beer.

It sounds to me like you received the ALUMINUM series. Maybe the 7075s. Which are not going to take that much torque at install nor would *I* ever trust an aluminum lug nut on anything bigger than an RC vehicle.

could be, or he got counterfeit (non-heat treated) studs ; they come from the asians....yup, I said that. Incredible safety hazard that could cause loss of life...stick with the USA products, please!

I went on the NRG web site and it looks like all of their lugs are aluminum. They have a couple grades, but all aluminum.

Are the LUG NUTS the part that stripped or the wheel studs that stripped?

Test the stripped parts with a MAGNET. If they are steel, they will be magnetic. If they are non ferous, they will NOT stick to the magnetic.

It was the nuts that stripped. And yes, they are aluminum.

Aluminum lug nuts? What is the purpose there? Save weight?
Are you trying to make sure you have extended studs for drag racing? Open ended?

As was mentioned, McGuard probably has what you need.
Got a photo of the setup?

There is no way an ARP stud would strip guys.
