Transmission???
My 6 speed (C5) went out on me yesterday, I could not shift into 1,3,5 or R and when I tried all I got was grinding, had to drive 30 miles home with 2,4 and 6. Could this be the shifter (Hurst) or did the Trans go
. I guess the first thing I should check is the shifter, has this happened to anyone else? Thanks for all your help in advance

The lower Box and the shift handle flange should be mounted FIRM and have little to NO movement when you move the shift handle
Check the Hurst first.
I had this happen to me years ago when I first installed the Hurst shifter and lost 1,3,5, and R on the way to a Vette get-together at a dyno shop in Buford, GA. When I got there, I borrowed a couple of tools from one of the dyno shop mechanics and pulled the shifter boot off to see if the setscrew stop on the base was blocking the shaft. Sure enough, the front stop had worked its way in almost all the way and was blocking the shifter from engaging the gears that are selected when I pushed the shaft forward. I backed the setscrew out and ended up taking them out altogether to keep it from happening again. They're really only needed as safety stops if you bang gears hard - for instance, during the 1/4.
Just sayin' - you should check that first before tearing into your gearbox or clutch.
