First... it's a 99, 6spd, with 78K. All stock expcept dual cone air filter.
Looking at my coolant overflow tank, things look pretty grungy in there so I'm planning to flush the system. Is Dexcool still the fluid of choice? I know that's what the cap says and the owner's manual, but with the advances in coolant, wasn't sure if something else is better.
The threads I searched all indicated Dexcool 50/50 so I'm thinking I already know the answer but wanted to confirm before moving on.
The system was designed for Dexcool and I have never had any problem. Everytime I have changed the coolant, it was as clean as when I put it in. However, you do need to keep the coolant refreshed, and I would never let it go the 5 years GM says it will last...
I have seen Dexcool form the brown sludge in the tank if the system is not maintained...
Always a good idea to change your coolant if you're not sure when it was changed last....
BUT...don't bother wasting time or money trying to clean the tank up, trust me, it will NEVER happen.
The coolant in the gallon jug came out of the old tank...It's about a year old with ~4K miles on it and was as clean as when it first went in.
Use Dexcool.

I'm not too fond of the taste, but the neighbor's cats love the stuff.
........KIDDING......although I have caught the cat napping on my vert's top twice already It's declawed so I don't care too much.
I had similar issues with cats when I lived in FL. I had a cover on my car there and these freaking cats would lay on it and one would pee on the cover. It was so annoying!!
I drained mine and put the green stuff a few years ago , I heard to many problems with the gm dexcool clogging things up .
Clogged my mom's Blazer twice which made me question whether or not to continue the use. Changed mine this past weekend. Looked clean and non clumpy so I went back with it.
I dumped the dexcool also, I do not need 2 types to deal with. Just flush it good grab a few gallons of distilled water and do a thorough flush. Switched over to new 5 yr universal, supposed to be compat with ALL, but I would flush it well as a precaution.
