You can do the fronts on the car. Pound them out thru the holes in the backing plate and use a stack of washers (with some of them greased) and lug nut on backwards to pull the new stud into place. The trick is to turn the new stud so that the serrations in the new stud match the grooves left by the old stud. Do that and it'll pull right in.
To do the rears you have to take the hubs off, or you have to drill a hole in the rear backing plate to get the stud out.
you need to pull the rear hubs to replace rear wheel studs. Some people have "cut" a window to allow you to replace rear studs without taking the hub off, but I didnt want to cut things.
you can replace front wheel studs without removing hub, there is enough room to pound out the old stud.
For your case of rear studs, the rear hub will need to come off. hardest part of the whole thing is popping the lower ball joint if you dont have the GM ball joint tool. If the wheel bearing is old, might consider putting a new one in as preventative maintenance.
