Next weekend I am planning on changing my balancer due to wobble. I have already purchaed a stock powerbond replacement. My question is should i replace the timing chain? Trying to keep this to as limited budget as possible. If I do replace the chain do I remove the cam sproket, oil pump, and then bolt it back up? If I leave the chain as is , should i still install a new crank seal? Dont want to have to do this twice. the car is a 2000 m6 with 111000 miles.Any advice?
I guess it all depends on how much work you want to do, your inventory of tools, mechanical ability, etc.
At minimum, you need to replace the crank seal, and if you remove the timing cover (which means the water pump also), you'll have to carefully reset the timing cover in place, otherwise you'll wear the seal, and have an oil leak. Also, in order to get at the chain, you'll have to remove the oil pump, which means you'll have to disconnect the pickup tube, which will require a new o-ring seal.
Yes, replacing the timing chain would be a good idea. From what I hear, the LS2 is a good, inexpensive choice.

You'll need the flywheel locking tool otherwise you will not be able to get the balancer bolt to the correct torque spec, and yes replace the crank seal.
As a bonus, if you decide to pin the crank, and use ATI's "longer" drilling fixture, you can use it to both line up the pin with the crank's oil pump drive keyway, as well as use it to align the timing cover.
Decided to do sprockets and chain. Since motor is stock i went with the cloyes c3220, This is the ls2 replacement and should be as good or better than gm. A heck of a lot cheaper. Chain and sprockets for $35
Have the hawk installer coming and should be able to make do with the tools I have for the rest of it. I have done a ton of research and reading and am pretty comfortable with what neds to be done as i have a lot of mechanical experience. I think the hardest part is going to be getting the rack out
