Used "Search"with no success to find out how high the rear on a C5 needs to be raised for installing an exhaust system. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,
if you are swapping out the axleback portion of the exhaust, then you will need at least 36" clearance to snake the pipes around the tranny... and you will have to loosen the retainer brackets and swing the rear sway bar down out of the way.
If it's stock, just hack the old one off like I plan on doing unless it's a Ti piece from a Z06. I think if you're putting an aftermarket one on, you don't need to have it anywhere near that high.
Thanks for the info. Don't have a lift. Will have to see if I can get the car 3 feet high. Don't want to cut anything as I will use the old system on my son's car as it's still good.

I had my rear bumper 30" off the ground and couldn't get my factory over axel pipes out. You'll definitely need at least 3' to make it happen without cutting. Good luck!

Any gas stations nearby, that would let you use theirs for an hour or so?
I did mine in the garage on stands (it's a little hairy). IIRC 30-32" to the bottom of the bumper does it. You have to snake the pipes out carefully with the sway bar removed or unbolted and hanging.
~33" was not high enough to get mine off. I run the Borla straight pipes during tracking season and then my Bassani from Dec thru Mar which includes inspection time. I had a local muffler shop cut my Bassani pipe just past the axle and install a clamp. Now I can change them in my garage myself. For stock that is not cut, I don't see it much as a diy without a lift. Good luck with it.
Its very dangerous to try and rig something up to get it high enough.. its a half hour job on a lift and 50 dollars should cover the install at any muffler shop. Shops are getting between $80 and $100 an hour.
Will probably have to go the route suggested to go to a shop with a lift. Cut my left hand today and it will not be of much use to me in any type work. I guess that's life.
