Default Trans fluid 6 speed

I need some help my friends.
I have a 2002 C5 all stock. I want to put some better fluid in the trans than it has from GM. Some guys say Royal Purple Syncromax or Amsoil syncromesh. What should I use that is approved to work. Not neccesarily
by GM but the Vette community who have experience.
Thanks, Protruck

I assume its an MN6. I have been running the Amsoil ATF but many have just been running the GM ATF with good success. Some fluids have made shifting more difficult and too slippery a fluid can do this.

I used Royal Purple on this last change. Haven't had any issues.

Changed mine last year, and went with Amsoil.

contact subdriver here. If you want to use Amsoil he can recommend the best type. I know he told me that the torque drive was best for my 00 MN6.

Recs to Amsoil Torque-Drive ATF . Bought thru forum member "subdriver" at decent pricing and speedy delivery. Get the Amsoil pump - works great. Use a torque wrench.

depends on the year of the car. the early cars used paper seals which don't agree with most synthetics

on later cars {like your 2002} i would use redline atf-4

my gripe with royal purple especially is that it's PAO based which shrinks seals. esters like redline actually have a minor swelling effect

amsoil apparently has some additive or formulation to control the shrinkage with their PAO oils. still it's a PAO and by nature that means shrinkage

the worst leaks i have seen on a c5 were with royal purple.

Another one for Amsoil. Just changed it last week.

Got it thru C66 Racing previously know as subdriver. Great guy to deal with even though I'm in Canada

Sorry for the slow response - was offline most of the last week due to being at Summit Point for a race and then playing catchup at work.

AMSOIL's offering which I use in my 02 Z06 at the track:
AMSOIL Torque-Drive Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (Product Code ATD1G)

Thanks for all the mentions above and sorry for the name change (Subdriver to C66 Racing - though I made a "new" Subdriver for those that PM at that name will still work). I joined the forum before buying my 02 Z06 and at the time racing followed by forming an LLC where not thoughts in my mind. As most of my forum activity these days is related to driving my Vette on the track, renamed to more closely align with that activity.

More than happy to get AMSOIL products for forum members at dealer wholesale pricing, about 25% below retail, via the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program. Drop me a PM if interested.
