Ive got about 200miles on my 2002 Z06 after a total rebuild salvage car. I have put new brake calipers etc when I did the rebuild. At the time I bled the brakes standard way without engine running. Everything has been working fine no warnings etc. But tonight I drove it in the pouring rain and I felt the traction control engage pulling away from a stop sign. Still no warnings everything worked fine. Stopped and went into a store for 5 min. When I started the car to leave got "ABS Active Handling" fail. Shut car off and back on still failed. Drove home about 10 miles. Still failed wouldn't reset. Brakes felt fine. Let it set for a couple of hours restarted and it was fine no warnings. Any ideas? Do I need to bleed the system differently?
I had a similar thing happen to me when I installed stainless steel brake lines on my 2000 coupe. I had bled the brakes and carefully installed the lines according to the instructions, and when I went to test the car out I saw that the active handling/abs light came on right after starting the car. I thought the worst since I have a 2000 and the ABS modules cost a fortune, but I drove it around the neighborhood for a few minutes, turned off the car and restarted it to see that the lights/warnings went off. Whew! The lights haven't came on since and this was several thousand miles ago. I bled my brakes the same way you did with a friend. BTW, my active handling definitely works now! I think this is because the system needed to re-cooperate somehow once the new fluid was in and all of the pressure became equalized and whatnot. Hopefully this makes you feel better .
Thanks for all the help. I probably jumped the gun and should pull the codes and do some troubleshooting. But its taken me 3 yrs to complete this rebuild and I was so pleased how well everything was working and having a ball driving this thing so I was pretty bummed when I got warning messages.
