My 2000 has a problem venting cabin pressure. If I leave a window down or a door open the rear hatch will glide shut. When I have doors closed and windows up. I have to slowly put it down then press it shut. I experimented by leaving the driver door slightly open and closing the rear hatch. When I did it had so much pressure that is almost blew the door half way open. The doors even have some resistance to them. I have checked the cabin vent in the rear drivers side cargo area. It was clear and free of any restrictions. Is there something I may have overlooked?
The cabin air release is in the rear hatch area. In the LEFT (drivers side) rear fender well, pull down the carpet in the stowage well area and you will see the vent louvers. They have a rubber sheet flap that acts as a one way (OUT) check valve. Make sure that they are not stuck shut / clogged/blocked or damaged.
I Lower it by letting it down and pushing down on the emblem. I"m in the local Corvette club, and have noticed the other c5's trunk lids will glide shut, with the windows up and doors shut. They let them down about half way then they simply let them go and they glide shut completely. Mine will do the same only if I put a window down or open a door. It's not a big problem I'm just trying to figure out why mine won't do it. I have also greased the door and cargo latches.
The coupe will draw more air volume than the Z06 or vert. The care taken to lower half way and allow to close slowly is about exchange of air volume. With the door open or a window open you can effortlessly close the hatch. the trunk relief valve can handle a relatively small amount of air. the slow process mentioned above from others works fine , but for others it does not. I would rather not tempt the rear glass seal especially the hatch seal to being forced to blow out ( and it will leak ) if you don't equalize the pressure properly. opening a door while closing the hatch will insure this will never happen.
Did later c'5s have larger vents. I called up a club member that closed his that way and he said his was an 03 model. Could it be GM changed the vent size?
I called the local dealer and they informed me that all C5's have the same vent. So I am going to leave it as is. It may be that mine has a tighter seal then the others I have seen. Thanks to everyone for all your help and suggestions.
Hmmm speaking of cabin pressure, has anyone ever had their side windows bow out while at higher speeds on the track? My friend was like holy crap man the window is bowed out at high speeds! I also have the same hatch issue with my 97', Will have to check the vent asap.

there are some adjustments in the door that allow you to adjust the angle of the window and thus the pressure on the window seal. I need to readjust mine. I have the same issue. pretty common.
