Default Question:LS6 intake manifold

I would like to speak with and get some information from someone that has actually installed a LS6 intake manifold on a LS1. A friend gave me a LS6 intake w/injectors and throttle body and valley panel. If you can inbox me a name and phone number and the best time of day to call I would appreciate it.

Its pretty bmuch a one for one swap. Make sure that the fuel injectors that you use are the SAME lb/hr as the ones that you have now. The manifold swap isnt a megga power adder. You may see 10-12 Hp. The ,manifold is a great base for future power adder mods!!

I would get new intake port gaskets (from any automotive store) and install them.

No need to disconnect your fuel injector assy from the fuel line. Just pop the rail and injectors out of the manifold and flop the entire assy back and lay it on the cowl.

Here are the torque specs for you: See attached PDF File:

I PM'ed you my number if you have any questions.

If you have an '01 C5 or later, you probably already have the Z06 intake as they were installed in most '01s and all MY's that followed that one.

Check the clearance for the coolant tubes that run beneath the pre-'01 LS1 manifolds (not sure what MY C5 you have). The older LS1 has coolant tubes that run beneath the manifold that you'll need to replace with the later version that eliminates that tube for tubes that runs across the front and back of the manifold.

Here's a guide to doing the LS1-->LS6 swap.

http://ls1howto.com/index.php?article=5

If you are doing the Z06 Valley cover swap on an older LS1, you will need to modify the valley by clearancing for the new cover PCV element. There are some very old threads you can search for on that that show where and how to cut. I have an '02 so I didn't have to cut anything to switch to the Z06 valley cover. Here's my thread on that:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...cover-mod.html

Best of luck!

I've read this on a few posts in this forum. I thought the LS6 manifold was unique to the Z06; aren't the manifolds different P/N's?

i installed it, i noticed no difference in the quarter mile in terms of time of mph. Most people say it helps when you add headers to go with it though.

5-12 Hp is really TOUGH to distinguish with your BUTT O METER,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

It really comes into play when you start adding OTHER bolt on MODs..
Who knows,, it may have affected your tune in a negative way and professional tuning may net you 10-25 additional HP..

Thanks for all the replies. Can't make up my mind if I want to do the swap or not. I have BBK shorty headers, stock cats, Corsa x-pipe and mufflers. I have two Corvette performance books that say just doing the manifold swap would add 15 HP. I know that's not much but I was thinking it might add alittle more since my exhaust has been modded. I just don't know enough about that stuff.

LMAO... Its a NO NONSENSE one for one swap that does nothing but good...

LOL Once you get the old one off and the new one on, you will say,, wow,,, that was easy!

Its a fool proof improvement that will support more performance MODs and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

The next best way to go is a FAST 92 ($800+) but you wont see any more HP till you do a heads and cam swap.

I think I have figured out what I need to do to swap the LS6 intake with my LS1 intake. I just need to remove the coolant lines under my intake and replace with the later model coolant lines. If I use the Z06 valley plate, I will have to do some cutting on my block so that's out. You mentioned fuel injectors. My understanding is that my LS1 injectors are rated at 2.3gm and the Z06 LS6 injectors are rated at 2.6gm for a 10% gain in fuel intake. So Bill, my question now is can I get by using the injectors that are already in the LS6 manifold or do I need to use my LS1 injectors? Many thanks for you help.

you don't really have to change over the coolant lines if you don't want to... you can get a chisel or flathead screwdriver and knock the ribs off of the bottom of the ls6 intake then you will have plenty of room for your existing coolant lines... I did this on my old trans am and had no problems doing it that way... other than that it is a direct swap... I would keep the injectors on the ls6 just to be safe, I believe they are both 28lbs though

I used the Z06 injectors that came with my used LS6 intake on my 98. No issues and I believe they are rated the same & 28.8lbs

the tuning requires you use the same lb injectors. if they are the same then no worries but i know my 00 LS1 oem injectors were like 22s if i remember correctly. its been a while since i got rid of them
