Default Help! Driving in the Dark.

I have been a long-time reader of the Corvette Forum but this is my first post.

I installed hi-wattage Euro T-84 headlights about eight months ago. I have had no problems (except for that occasionally the headlight doors due not close when the twilight delay goes off). But three days ago I have NO headlights…no low or hi beams! Daytime running lights still work, the twilight auto-sensor works fine as the headlight doors pop up when it gets dark but they still do not come on. When I turn off the twilight feature and turn on the headlights manually with the car in my driveway and the hood raised, I can hear the relays clicking for both low and hi beam operation…they just don’t light up.

I tested the fuseable link in the wiring harness and the low and hi beam fuses in the engine compartment and they were all fine. I tested the 20 amp #54 circuit breaker in the passenger footwell area and that was fine as well. Finally, I followed the series of tests outlined in the GM Service Manual by testing the resistance to circuit W of the 209 connector-block under the dash and everything was within the specified range. The Service Manual says that if everything else checks out, this problem could then be due to a faulty “Multifunction Turn Signal Lever.”

Has anyone had this problem or can anyone think of something else that could be causing my headlights to die?

Thanks!

P.S. – I also checked the bulbs.

If the relay clicks on, I can't imagine how it could be a faulty turn signal lever.... As for what's causing your problems, I've got no idea... Good luck, though.

I have a similar setup and assuming that you wired yours up the same as I did (separate relays for high and low beams and EACH fed 12V directly from 'the battery'), THEN IF the relays, when they 'click' are INDEED 'shorted' (as appropriate, depending on whether you have high or low beam selected) AND THEN IF you are indeed getting 12V TO AND THRU the relay(s) (at the output terminals) THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE HIGH/LOWS BEAMS, as selected.

IF YOU DON'T, then the only thing I can suggest that either both bulbs and/or filaments are 'GONE' (burnt out; QUITE unlikely IMHO) *OR* you have a GROUND (WIRE) problem (FAR more likely, I think, given your symptoms).

I suggest you check for 12V at each relay's INPUT TERMINALS AND AT THE APPRROPRIATE (RELAY) OUTPUT TERMINALS when your relays SHOULD be engaged (depending on your lighting selection). If this checks out O.K., then I suggest you check for 12V closer to/at the (approprate) headlight TERMINALS and if still O.K., look at your ground connections.

*IF* the relays check out O.K. AND are switching properly AND you have 12V at the input and output terminals, I can't imagine HOW the problem could be 'upstream', ANYWHERE.

Good Luck, and let us know your results.
