A/C will kick out and A/C light goes out. After awhile it kicks back in and works normal. I have no codes.
When it is working it blow cold air just fine, so I am assuming the charge is okay.
It does has dual controls.
It may not be related but the problem first started yesturday after a through cleaning and wash of the engine. After the cleaning I started the engine, had a loud squeal for a while (probably wet belts) and then no A/C. Later it kick back in and work fine again until today. Today it seems to be getting worst.
I do have guages, a 30 # jug of 134A and vacuum pump. I do not know what the normal readings should be for a 2001 C5. Since it blows cold when it does kick in, it seems like I will probably find these readings to be normal.
Any ideas? Again I have checked codes and I have none.
It is on the passenger side under the front bumper at the skid support. It is a black, pointy sort of sensor. Also know as ambient air sensor. It is the outside temperature displayed on the control unit. Common for it or the wiring associated with it to get damaged.
I agree. The pressures need to be checked and verified. There is an entire chapter in the service manuals on the HVAC and AC systems. It contains a chart with all the HIGH and LOW pressures under various temperatures and humidities. That is the very first place to start. Take a look at these past AC post:
I had a similar problem last year during hot weather. Also should note that the car was running very hot at the time. Went back and forth with the repair shop and they finally replaced the A/C Control unit. That has seemed to fix the problem. Made a run up to Big Bear this last weekend with OAT's hitting 108 on the 10 fwy. the A/C was doing just fine.
As other's suggested check your pressures and verify you have a good A/C charge. If that all looks good you may want to look at the Control Unit.
The A/C control unit is new (not refurbished). The A/C is working better but did kick out one more time on Tuesday. If it was low pressure it would be getting worst or at least no change.
The problem first started immediately after a good degrease and cleaning of the engine. Seems it must be related.
