I have a small leak around the oil pan on my LS6. Once in awhile I see a drop on the floor of my garage. So yesterday I took a good look around. Not leaking from valve covers (block is dry). Front seal seems fine, nothing coming from bell housing cover so rear seal seems fine. I do see oil on the oil pan.
I cleaned the pan and lower engine with brake clean, went for a drive and took another look. I see oil seeping around some of the bolts but small amounts. The right back corner of the pan had significantly more oil and it was blowing back onto the exhaust pipe. Again, I cleaned it up well, ran the engine and watched. I see what appears to be bubbles but may be oil from between the rear cover and block just above the oil pan.
Is there pressurized oil behind the rear cover or does it just splash around from the pan? If I see this at idle it must really blow out at higher RPM when hot. What are my options to fix this? I'm assuming drop the drivetrain and replace the gasket on rear cover? Opinions???
I think mine leaks a littler there too. drips back to my exhasut pipe every now and then. nothing above that point only below. once i clean it it takes a while to make a mess.. I was honestly thinking of cleaning it up really well and use some grey gasket maker to stop it from dripping unitll its time to do a clutch.

Yes, that looks like mine before I cleaned it. As you can see in the video I posted (watch closely on the large YouTube player), it looks like a very small leak in the gasket. It appears to "splash" out of the oil pan as there should be no pressure there. I had the same thinking as you and cleaned it up very well with brake clean then forced ultra black silicone between the block and rear cover. Hopefully that will help keep it clean until clutch change time. There are just way too many leak points in our oil pans!
