Default Engine reduced power?

Hello. I am new to a Corvette and dont know anything about them...
I bought a 97 a few months ago. I just saw that my ECU is naked and is not coverd and also that its alittle loose? I was going to take it tomarrow and have it fixed and coverd but now my car wont run? I think it has got wet or something but not really sure. I started it up and it started to beep. Comes up with ENGINE REUDUCE POWER? Wont go over like 5mph now. It did it to me about a hour ago and I just turned it off and on and gave it some gass then it was fine but now no matter what it wont go.
I am going to take it to the shop tomorrow but I didnt know if it was maybe something I could look at before I spend all my money for something simple?

I did it and nothing. I watched the video too. Only thing that is coming up is "brake before shift".
It wont clear anything on the dash like it says it will in the video so I would say its got wire problems or something....

Also open the drivers door as wide as it will go. Grahold of the rubber accordian boot between the door and the A pillar and shake it as hard as you can. Does this make any difference in the reduced power message in the DIC???
No I checked that too. Everything in the car stays nice and dry and the floors are dry also. I am going to have a shop next door to my store check it out and see what they can find out.
Only thing I know that is wroung with it is that the computer in the fender is loose and the ingition coil wiggles apart from the coil if I put the fuel rail covers on and it runs like crap. Maybe it came off again and its doing this to keep it safe.

The car is a rebuild and I am worried that I am going to get into a mess of wires and stuff thats been cut. Beuatiful car but if all it does is set dosnt matter how nice it looks lol

Make SURE that someone didnt splice in an UPGRADED 2001-2004 PCM. Your 97-98 PCM is a lot slower and less upgradeable than a late model PCM and to swap in a new PCm requires a rewire. The PCM is not covered but should be properly secured in the fender. The actual PCM is contained in a water tight aluminum box. The TAC module (small black plastic box) on the outside of the PCM should also be properly secured.

PCM removed from the aluminum housing:

PCM in frame as delivered 97 frame/rolling chassis:

Check some of the corvette salvage yards for the harness

I dont know what they put back onto the car but all I know is that some wires are cut and stuff. They dont know what to do but look and find every wire and re do it. The computer they hooked up to it wont pick up any codes. They said they will have to re wire it then see if it will hook up to there thing and stuff and go from there. No clue as to what is wrong with it?

I moved the coil wires around after I got it back from the shop because it had a bad miss in it and now its running better then it ever has?
I don't know what the prob is but the wires have been cut and re done before. Can a miss fire or running rich make that code pop up on the dash?
It was running super rich and the gas smell was super bad. Got in the car and the idol was super high and when u put it in gear it would launch off. Like I said I moved my wires around & the miss is gone. The code is gone, and the smell is gone.
I am lost with the car I think I will take it back to the shop and see if they can re wire the coil packs and the fuel rails..

Default Give VetteNuts a call

Give Vette nuts a call (Forum Vendor) they may be able to help out with a replacement harness. May be the best bet if someone hacked up the harness.
