I'm about to take delivery of an 01' vert. I nor the salesman could figure out why the yellow button won't release to get the top down. Am I missing something? I'm at the dealership now. Next time I'll use the "search" feature but I didn't have time since I'm about to drive it home!
Trunk not shut completely. Tonneau won't open with trunk open.
Bad button switch.
Blown fuse. (#17 in passenger footwell)
Broken wire.
Bad switch in trunk circuit.
Remember, you can manually unlatch the tonneau cover with the small steel cable hidden behind the waterfall under the carpet.
So the problem wasn't the tonneau release, you were trying to lift the back of the top without pulling the front of the top up and back? The top holds down the back by pressure from the front. There is no latch for the rear, as you now know, so the front has to be lifted to release the pressure on the back. The yellow button only releases the latch for the fiberglass tonneau cover itself. The salesman apparently wasn't very knowledgable.

Enjoy your convertible, they are fantastic.
That's exactly what happened! Now I need to get just a little more sound coming from her.
You might already know this, but take care not to bend the roof structure by putting things in the trunk where they might damage. Such was the advice from some guys at a restoration seminar I attended. They said the tops take a set after a while, and once they get bent they never really work as well because it is hard to recreate the exact same old fit. They said they treat the tops they work with as a one of a kind deal for each car, they don't interchange well as used parts.
I'm just repeating what they said. I thought it kind of interesting, and a useful fact for a convertible owner. I certainly not qualified to give advice, I just drive the thing. Without this website, I couldn't even fix the thing.
If the top didn't go down, I would be long gone . A corvette without a convertible top is like a playboy bunny with a flat chest. You can have big fun , but you are missing the connoisseur's experience.
I think GM got a lot of advanced electrical design when they bought Hughes Aircraft and then had problems actually keeping the stuff going longterm once they sold off the exotic brainpower. Still have the best heads up display in the industry, even after all these years. Except mine's broken. They all break. Oh, it still works allright, just projects a little low because a plastic pivot broke . Was it GM that had the mark of excellence in their advertising? I think they lost a little face with that one.
