Today I took my 2000 Vette to a local Corvette shop to have my new LG Longtube headers installed. When I told to mechanic that I had LGs he stated that the last two sets he installed had problems. He said that they could not get them to seal properly.
I was just curious if anyone else has had issues with them, and if so what is a possible remedy. Im just hoping mine fit perfectly, but want to be prepared if not.
Yes they are hard to get sealed up but if you get some quality grade 8 hardware and re tighten them up after a few heat cycles it usually does pretty well
Any system that uses slip fit connections is going to have occasional problems sealing 100%, which in the C5's case is all of them - I don't know of a single header system that doesn't have at least some slip fit type connections.
My understanding of why the connections are not flanged is for space/ground clearance concerns.
Hopefully its not a header gasket surface issue he is referring to. Any good mech/tech would strait edge the header gasket surface to insure its true before installing.
Put mine on in my garage, on jackstands. Not being a mechanic, I didn't square the flange before installing them. They've since been off 3-4 times for various projects, and with MLS gaskets, have never leaked.

had mine for over 2 years...installed them myself..and not one single issue with any part of them...I think its key to go back and retighten all the bolts after a few heat cycles
Only issue I have seen with regards to leaking was at the slip joints. If it happens, there are different clamps that will seal them up tight. So don't worry about it, there is a simple solution on the off chance they leak.
I can't say how the install went, but I've had my C5 for a few months and a previous owner installed LG long tubes on it. Still sounds great and no leaks.
