OK...Second chance to fix leaky diff.
Last time, the tech removed and replaced left side half shaft
and replaced seal. A day later it is leaking again and more severely.
This week, the tech removes and replaces left side diff cover and
seal. BTW, our own C-5 Tech advises that if sealant wasn't used
in conjunction with cover/seal, it will leak again.
I drove the car home, covered it up (construction in house going on)
and didn't look at it for two days.
As I'm working at home, the phone rings and it's GM asking about my
service satisfaction and based uponmy visit, and would I recommend the dealer for service? AND, it is based solely on this particular visit.
Hmmmm. I asked why they didn't call the other two or three visits?
He repeats the original question.
Not to give the caller a hard time, I said based upon the assumption that
the problem was solved, I would recommend them, but it took several
tries and more visits to get to the bottom of it.
The call ended and 5 minutes later, the dealer's parts department called to
inform me my "bolt" came in...WHAT bolt?
She said they ordered a bolt for my last service call. I asked her to check with the tech and get back to me...I'm still waiting.
Then it occured to me that I didn't check for leaks in two days.
I go down to the garage and sure enough, a quarter-sized drop
of greenish diff fluid sitting under the car. SHEEEIT!
Not again...Maybe it's an overfill, but I gotta' suspect the diff case
is at fault (it was pretty gnarly) or a sealant wasn't used as per C5 Tech.
Oh well, at least they recognize me coming through the door now.
Tex...We looked at the case and there is a section near the bottom
that looks very rough compared to the main body. This section is
runs about 4-5 inches and is right at the edge of the seal.
I could imagine what isat the top where I can't see.
I had mine done yesterday and they said they found the leak, repaired it, and tested and it is fine. However, after reading your post, I went down and put some paper under it just to see if it is still leaking. I didn't see any new leak but it might have mixed with the old signs so now I should be able to get a new reading. I did have it fixed once before so I know it is capable of reappearing.
Mine got fixed last Fall for a leaky side cover, the tech knew about using the sealer and says that he did so.
It just started leaking again, they replaced the side cover again while I was out of town. My wife picked it up last week, we'll see how it works this time.
My mech says he's tried the anaerobic sealer before and it doesn't help. Can anyone elaborate on the sealer and why it should or shouldn't help? Does it hurt anything to use it?
