Default mustang 5.0

Have any of you had the pleasure of going up against a new 5.0 mustang. I just wanted to know how they stack up against a c5 with a few bolt on's.

I destroy them on the drag strip. But they have the freeway speed.

A stock C5 versus a new Mustang is probably going to end up in a loss for the C5, but a few bolt-ons probably evens the score.

Z06 is another story. 2002+ Z06 is going to put some lengths on a new 5.0.

I'm in the same boat as NukeC5.. At the local track I put a REALLY bad hurting on them.. Friend of mine actually drives one of them with tune, exhaust, intake and he hasnt got me yet.. All the others are either stock or close to stock and I literally destroy them.. I dont street race anymore so I havent had the chance to run one on the highway but I could see where they would be a handful.. Oh, and just to keep from confusion.. I beat them OFF the bottle.. I have yet to see a stock/mild modded 5.0 get into the 7's in the 1/8th... I did it with basic bolt-ons.. Mine has been a best of 7.21 on drag radials.. shooting for a 6.99 on slicks.. but back to the original topic lol

Yes, to avoid confusion from my end too. I was on a stock LS1 with few mods when I last took any of them on. Now is a different story. But they arent too impressive to be honest. Now if you see one with some serious tires... you may have a problem on your hands . Cars these days simply out power ours. The weight of the C5 has really kept us in the game though. The new mustangs, camaros, and challengers never have a chance on the strip. Unless they are well modified or running drag tires.

But strip aside. Im sure the 5.0 could spank a C5 on the road from a rolling pull.

Nuke, I'm still not 100% convinced they can "spank" a C5.. The only foundation I have for that statement is that my brother has a 00 Z28, car is fairly basic (Lid, LS6 intake, LT's, Off road Y pipe, Magnaflow exhaust, Tune, and a couple suspension peices) He raced the same 5.0 I mentioned above from about a 10mph roll.. Made for one hell of a race!!

In fact I forgot I have the video of the race.. sorry my wife is so shakey, she had trouble lol.. Josh (red 5.0) put down 443 on the dyno .. Derek put down 358.. so it makes no sense why he would win but thats racing I guess

Mustangs are a neat little car, a bit too heavy & low on horsepower. At a recent autocross, two mustangs got blistered by stock C5s on the track. But they do look good & I'm glad Ford builds them.

My 97' 6 speed C5 which runs as 12.7@ 112 intake and exhaust vs a bone stock 5.0 gt from 45 in 2nd slightly pulls a 2013 by a fender or two to 100ish on multiple runs. Tried an uphill one and the mustangs weight really comes into play and falls back over a car. It's a very close run, my car is a "factory freak" as people like to call it.

I've been wondering the same thing. My dad told me the other day his buddy bought a new Mustang and said he told him that it goes 0 to 60 under 4 seconds and hasnt found anywhere he can get it out of 4th gear because its so fast...lol. He said he wanted to run my Vette. I am Kinda Leary to go to the "Track" and run him because I wouldnt want to get spanked lol. I'm not sure if he bought the GT or the GT500

I saw a new one the other day with the 427 in it. I knew I did not want any part of him, but I did not want him to know that. Our cars still have the "mystique" that the Mustangs don't have. They are great cars and look nice, but the mystique has to be earned. Heck, our cars look fast just sitting still!

Ford claims 550 hp out of the GT 500 - performance numbers do not reflect that kind of power but he could put the hurt on a C5.

Ive learned that power plays little in the grand scheme of things. At the strip on 305whp I took on 600+ whp vipers and Z06's. Its all about the launch and timing.

Thats not to say rolling and hitting it they are not impressive, but weight and gearing makes up for huge amounts of power disparities. I have 330wtq and took on an EVO just today, and after talking to him discovers he is pushing 410wtq. We were neck and neck, but the gearing and weight made it an equal playing field.

You "took them on"? yeah, and LOST...badly.

if not, then someone needs to teach the drivers of those Vipers and Z's how to drive.
