Default rear end question

i recently blew my diff up so im in need of a replacement . i was offered an awesome deal on a diff from an auto vette with 2.72 gears . i have a 6 spd. i was wondering if id be able to just buy some 4.10's and use the auto carrier. would this work?

Im not sure on the fitment. But I strongly recomend you find someone very experianced with these rears specificly to do the job. Ask me how I know....

I vaguely remember someone saying the 2:72 will not accept a 4:11 ring gear BUT,,, don't quote me on that.

Its also not the strongest case in the C5 line up. You need a three rib late model case.

Every time this comes up the general consensus is that the 2.73 case cannot accept larger gears. But I dont know if any but a few on here can really confirm this. The 3.15 case is supposedly similar to the 3.42 case and can accept larger gears.

As stated, I would look for a 3-rib 3.42 case. I picked mine up for 275 , They are out there.

You need a ring gear spacer. Possibly some milling to the carrier bearing seat also. Other than that, it shouldn't be a problem.
