Spent three weeks going crazy try to track down the "Service column lock- Remove key wait 10 sec and the ever aggrivating 2 mph injector shut-off. Finally, after coming across an older thread with the exact same issues I had I did what he suggested. Call Rich at Compliance Parts.com about a part he sells for this same problem (LMC5). We spoke for quiet a while, and I was convinced. Part was $40.00 plus I went for the $20.00 overnight. I received the part and it took every bit of 15-20 min. to install and I've been driving ever since. If you have a problem anywhere close to mine call him. Don't drive yourself crazy like I did. He said his part shouldn't have anything to do with it, but my gas gauge has never zeroed out again and it did it once or twice with every fill up.
I had the "service column lock" issue a few weeks ago. The dealership came and towed the car and fixed it for free under the recall thats out on the problem. I don't understand why anyone is spending money and fixing it themselves.
There is some exceptional reason the dealer serviced your car free of charge. Perhaps the GM recall service had never before been done on the car?
In general if the GM recall service has been done to the car, GM will NOT pay to have work done on the column lock system. Prior to 2008 they would often service the car more than once because of column lock symptoms. But in early 2008 they announced in writing to owners of C5's that can experience the Column lock symptoms, that "If the car had been serviced one or more times under the Column Lock Recall, they would NO LONGER pay to service column lock symptoms. This is now considered an normal wear and tear item". I still have my copy of the letter in the glove box.
You are certainly an exception if your dealer repaired your column lock problem without charge.
This was the first time i had this problem. I waa at the dealership for something unrelated. They looked up my vin and said i had the recall and they wanted to fix it. I declined cause it was giving me no problems. Year later (few weeks ago) my steering column locked and i had the message to service steering column lock. Had a completely different dealerahip tow it and fix it 100% free.

I think you'll find that the GM fix really isn't a fix at all. My guess is that they programmed the 2 mph cutoff into it, at least if it's a manual transmission. Read the sticky on top of either the General page or Tech page, forget which one. There is a lot of good info in that sticky but it is long.
I have had the LMC5 as well for about a year now. It's been working flawlessly. I really like the way it takes all the column lock circuitry out of the loop.
I don't think "quickc5z06" understands. The Service Column Lock and the "Remove Key and wait 10 Sec" messages were not a disabling problem. ( My car's column hasn't locked in about 10 years since I did the recall. It was the fact that the car shut off at 2mph that was the problem. When that happens to you, good luck getting the dealer to fix it for free. They probably wan't even know how.
The number one reason you experience column lock is the battery. Like the sticky's say, measure the voltage across the +/- terminal without anything attached. Less than 12.5V and you will experience problems.
I had the CLB for years but after too many years without checking the battery. It went too low and the column locked up. After several frustrating attempts to fix things, including checking to make sure the CLB was working correctly, I finally checked the battery. 11.8V. Put in new battery and it runs great since. I am told with EFILive you can turn off the column lock from the PCM and place it in export mode. HPTuners might be able to do it also.
