I sold the C4 to buy a 2000 FRC and I love it. It is a lot slower than my 92 vette, but I am hoping to change that. The car is completely stock and it is detonating a bit at part throttle and WOT. It gets worse with the AC on. Any ideas? Also, what do you guys think are the best bolt-ons for the buck? I plan on buying the Donaldson intake.
Welcome to c5 forum. If you do the rearend gear thing you'll notice a big differenc according to other threads. There seems to be a consensus also on headers that the long tubes are the only ones to consider with an X pipe and aftermarket exhaust. I like my Donaldson so I don't have to worry about heavy rains like you would with a Vortex. Best part of all of this is NO OPTISPARK! :D
Congrats. I would do a Blackwing and Stingers then Gears. 3.90's are the best from what I have driven. the 4.10's seemed a bit too short. always changing gears. wasn't so bad with 3.90's but thats just my opinion. Enjoy the car oh and change the shifter to a Hurst or a B&M big, big difference.
I would get the engine in order before adding anything. It shouldn't ping IMO. You should do a plug inspection/change. You might want to go with some NGK TR-55's or the colder TR-6's depending on how bad the pinging is.
Would highly recommend you get PCM reprogrammed by Ed Wright at Fastchip, would also fix denotating problem among other things, plus maybe Vortex Ram Air Intake and Borla Exhaust. :reddevil
I don't think it should ping, even here in the valley of the sun temps. Mine did for awhile around 4,000 mi, and then it went away several thousand miles later.
