Default Run Flat or Regular tires?

In the market for new rear tires and I keep hearing from a lot of people that run flats are bad. Like the worst thing ever. Yet there's no spare tire in the Vette, so it'll have to be towed. Yet run flats are nearly twice the price of regular tires, and wear out 2x as fast.

What are other peoples experience with going regular? Do you keep a can of fix of flat with you at all times?

Don't mix them. Get 4 non run flats. Towing costs less than buying runflats. Plus you most likely will never need it anyway. My C5 handles so much better now that they are gone. My C6 will not get run flats when it needs tires either.

Don't bite my head off or anything. Yea I know it's a subject that's been beaten to death, but I wanted opinions from C5 owners. Yea I get Everyone Hates Run-Flats. Btw thanks duramaxsky, I've decided to go with Hankook non run flat tires.

Good article, I hadn't read that one. I think you'll be happier with the ride and the price.

1)Taken those long trips and listening to hour after hours of heavy tire noise is something that most do not get use too and when regular tires are put on the car those same trips are so much more enjoyable.

2) the cost to replace is almost twic that of a conventional tire.

3) todays tires do not blow out, if you have a leak, pick up a nail, etc a simple use of an on board compressor will allow you to pump up the tire to 45 Psi and allow you to ride the next 20 minutes to 30 minutes until the tire gets down to 25 psi again and then just pump it up again to 45 and go another half hour or until you go to any tire repair shop and get it plugged.

I've has non run flats on my car for the last 8 years, I've never had any issues with the tires and have put 30,000 miles on them. And those 30,000 miles have been much more enjoyable than the previous 60K using EMT's. I would never go back, and have all the peace of mind in going anywhere. I enjoy the car much more now without that horrible tire noise, and the car handles much better with conventional tires than with those rigged sidewalls found on the EMT's
Of course this is my experience and am willing to share it. I too used the " Peace of mind " thinking when I ran EMT's, but it was a very noticeable and immediate improvement in the quality, handling and enjoyment of my C5's Ride.

A couple of pliers/cutters a plug kit and a compressor. Don't need no stinking run flats.

I don't know, the noise isn't so bad on mine and it doesn't make the trip unenjoyable, so to each his own I guess.

There was a huge change in noise when I went to real tires on my C5. I installed a sound insulation kit and now I did not need to. And it was still loud with run flats. There was a huge handling improvement. I carry a small 12 volt compressor in the storage compartment in the hatch. That and a bottle of slime. I would only add the slime if I could not get at least 10 minutes per re-pump.

My wife has a caddy CTS. It came with a compressor and a can od sealant. A SPARE TIRE WAS AN OPTION! I bought her a spare and put the GM tire repair compressor and sealant in my 2001. I run regular tires.
Buy the CTS compressor/sealant on Ebay and go.

I went back to Run flats after a set of Kumo's gave out. Now have Michilins, Sports and love um. Good set of shocks, ( Bilsteins) will stop that nasty road noise.

Every car I own has a plug kit, a 12v compressor, and small toolkit. I've had many flats, yet I've never once used a spare. (And donut spares quite frankly scare the chit out of me anyway )

I've also taught the scrawny little thing in my avatar how to air up a tire and how to use a can of fix a flat. I would show her how to plug a tire, but considering the number of curse words I've had to use to insert some of those plugs, it's not something I'd trust her to do on the side of the road.

Really tired of the road noise on my 2001 from the Goodyears. Any suggestions on what tires to buy (not runflats) that are quite smooth and will not break the bank. I am a senior ( no drags or track time) and only put about 3000k a year on the car....Thanks

My Goodyear runflats still had plenty of tread left but were 6 years old so I replaced 'em. Went with Sumitomo HTR ZIIIs. Only have about 200 miles on 'em and so far I really like 'em.

Sumis are a great bang for the buck. I have HTR ZIIs now. Noise, traction, and feel are all much improved over the runflats they replaced. They seemed to wear a bit more quickly than other comparably rated rubber for me, but I can't complain considering the price.
