Sound Panel Bonus
Advantages of coated panel over styrofoam.
Easy to adjust from layer to layer (did three) for variations in height.
Ability to put structural elements in mix.
Aluminum reflective barrier and white Kraft paer on opposing sides.
Used liquid nails (sets quick between panels).
Used left over adhesives for fastening carpet (Home Depot- $2.70 per linear foot X 72"). Fair match.
Bonus Aspect
Since you will have additional panel remaining you can use it to make an additional panel to fit between the base of the pressure fitted panel and the rear support structure behind the seat. This helps insulate (obwiously) but also helps maintain the partition panel in place.
The panel also is thin enough that you can use it to add insulation behind your seats' backs. Chamfering the edges allows for a good fit and no real intrusion into the cabin. Just slip it under the rugs.
This was done for Under $30.
Impression is that the car is quieter and more comfortable here in sunny and HOT Florida. Music box improved.
Total weight gain has to be less than 10 Lbs.
If you can avoid cutting yourself when shaving, you can do this.
Very cheap and very effective. Totally reversible.
The original idea came from the Ecklers catalog and the follow up from a fellow poster. I'd give kudos but I lost the address and names. (Found it NCVette Man Archive Date 11-06-01)
The time spent exceeded the previous stipulated period. I figure I spent seven hours but I am totally unorganized. I buy 100 straight edges at a time because I lose most of them. No bare feet in my garage!
