Default 2004 Automatic Shift Assembly

I'm new to the forums here, but not new to corvettes . I'm working on a 2004 Base automatic coupe for a neighbor who cannot get the transmission to shift into park.
Lever 38610 has to be shifted by hand to engage park and it looks like the cable bushing near the bracket has separated in two. The cable will jerk to one side after shifting out of park so that, if you were to shift from reverse back to park, it gets caught and push Lever 38610 back into park.

Is there supposed to be a metal retainer there or should it slide in and out freely?
More importantly, does anyone have a picture of that area with a properly set up 04? I have the diagram for 97-02 but not for 04.

Thanks
Johnathan

The bushing in the cable end pops over the pin on the trans lever.
Does the 02 not look to be the same?

If the bushing is busted, you lose travel.

I downloaded a C5 Parts Manual that covers 97-02 so I wasn't sure if there were any differences and some on this forum said they had different part numbers for 04 cables. The bracket is different than the one in the picture. The hole for 04 looks like a lightbulb instead of a "U" and the hole/guide is between the two mounting holes.

The problem area doesn't seem to be on the Lever 38610 (If I knew how to post images off my hard drive I might be able to show what may be the difference). If you draw a line from the top of Bracket 68616 and the closest Cable Retainer 38612, the cable on that line has some sort of guide or retainer (I can't tell which).
